Baby Dedication

Baby Dedication at First Church of Christ is an opportunity to thank God for the precious child He has entrusted to your care. A child’s first impression of God comes from his/her family. By dedicating your family to God, you are committing to raise your children according to God’s standards. You are not only dedicating your child to God, you are committing to maintain a Christian home where God and Christ are honored.

Mandatory Parent Class:

Friday, January 19 @ Union Campus

Friday, January 26 @ Burlington Campus

Below are frequently asked questions about baby dedication.

If you have other questions feel free to reach out to our fc|kids team: fckids@firstchruch.me

Is dedicating my child the same as Baptism?
Baby Dedication is not a baptism or a christening. We believe that baptism is reserved for a time when a child or adult is ready to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.

Are there requirements?
Our only requirements for families to participate in the Baby Dedication Ceremony are that a parent(s) is ready to commit to raising their child(ren) to know, love and serve God and that you attend a Baby Dedication Parent Class. You do not have to be a member of First Church to participate.

Does the Bible say that I need to dedicate my child?
The bible doesn't address baby dedication specifically but we follow the guiding principles from the scripture below.

Deuteronomy 6:4-7 - NIV Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Proverbs 22:6 - NIV Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

What type of class do I attend?
Baby Dedication Parent’s Class, is the required class that is designed to bring the concept of Biblical parenting into today’s culture, providing families and the church a common path to walk together. During the baby dedication, you will stand before God to declare your intentions and commitment to lead your child to Jesus throughout your life.

Our Early Childhood Ministry includes children birth-preK. There are 3 Basic Truths* we want each young child to know.

  • God made me
  • God loves me
  • Jesus wants to be my friend forever

We believe that giving each child a foundation of faith is critical even at a very young age.

Our Elementary Children's Ministry has 3 Basic Truths* that are modeled after Jesus' example in Luke 2:52.

  • I need to make the wise choice
  • I can trust God no matter what
  • I should treat others the way I want to be treated

We teach these truths by focusing on one main idea each month, weaving scripture through the entire ministry time, and by being a loving part of each child's life.
