As a first time attendee to Move, I had no idea what to expect. I woke up extra early this morning, going over my packing checklist over and over again. I was no doubt incredibly nervous and antsy. However, I was also excited to see how my relationship with God was going to grow this week.
After a fun-filled car ride up with a sing-along movie and homemade cookies, we finally made it to Holland, Michigan. At this point, I was just excited to be there. We settled into our rooms and made our way down to dinner. Dinner was the first time I was able to get a feel for all of the people at Move. It made my heart really happy to see all of the people here for the same reason as me: to worship and get closer to Jesus Christ.
After dinner, we had some downtime before our first night session. All of my friends kept going on about how excited they were for me to experience the night session, so I got excited too. It’s safe to say I was not disappointed. For me, worship has always been something that I loved. I love music and singing. When I worshipped with 1,900 other people around my age, I found a new love and meaning for worship. I could truly feel Him in my heart.
After some fun games with our emcee and moving worship, we listened to Pastor Jayson French speak from 1 John. Being this year’s theme is Contrast, we began to talk about distinguishing things like light from dark and love from fear. Then, he demonstrated the importance of this message with a dangerous activity including a student volunteer and two mousetraps.
When the face of Move, Cat, gave the room her one piece of advice I immediately felt like I was in the right place. She said something along the lines of “We often pretend that everything's okay and that you have everything together, but it is okay if you don’t know and it’s okay to need to talk.” I felt that no matter where I was on the spectrum with my faith, it was was going to grow.
After listening to those powerful messages, we worshipped some more. It was so incredible to experience such an energy and I have never felt anything like it before. My first day of Move was easily one of the best days I have had this year. I am so grateful for this experience and I am ready to become a Kingdom Worker!
